lucky (2,026) $$0.00 I was inspired by the thought of the creek being an active participant in the making of this piece. I spent time by the water taking in the surrounding wildlife and foliage. Using the sun on the banks of the creek, some clover nearby and the water flowing from the pump station into spring creek this cyanotype print came to life. The process allowed the creek, sunlight, and surrounding landscape to become part of the work itself, rather than simply being subjects I was observing. For me, the piece is a reflection of spending time with Spring Creek and allowing the place to shape the work in its own way. Summie Hall Springdale, Arkansas Printmaking What is Spring Creek to you? Spring Creek has become a staple location in my life here in Springdale. Walking the greenway, watching a parade, or airplanes taking off and landing at the airport, creating community at the park while watching Mexico play in the World Cup. Spring Creek has been winding itself into core memories of mine for the past 3 years of me living here.

Spring Creek has become a place of relaxation and community connection. The creek flows through our whole city and is connected to time with my family watching planes land and take off at the airport, watching the Rodeo of the Ozarks parade downtown along the creek, walking the greenway while strolling my newborn baby, to time on Sunday afternoons letting the water wash away the summer heat.

It's a place we go to recharge, relax, find inspiration and enjoy each other's company. I love printmaking and have been trying to get back into creating my own art. Waterways, 1-5 out of edition of 20 (2,026)$$250.00This work is in response to a recent trip to Spring Creek with Amber and friends. I had not been before, but found it so calm and inviting. I had etched a plate at an artist residency program in Silicy three years ago, but did not have the opportunity to move forward with that suite of prints. It was a simple undulating line, and I intended to make chine-colle prints, backing handpainted rice papers with a rice adhesive and using the pressure of the press to make the print and collage the papers together simultaneously. I came across a large stone on the dry creek bed that had developed patterns from the flow of water and debris being pushed agaist and around it over time. I lugged this stone to my car and meditated on it, while painting my rice papers in the palette matching a small plein-air painting I had made in the water. I hope the print gives the impression I felt of water moving over stones. I like to run with my dog through town, and whenever I can we pull off to swim and cool down in a creek. Maple was with me this trip, and she loved splashing in the water while playing fetch. Tackle Box Prints (2,026) $$200.00 Earlier this Summer, I found a small plastic tackle box near a bullfrog pond along the watershed. I’ve been visiting the pond since January, but so have the birds, the neighborhood kids, the off-leash dogs, cats and bullfrogs. As my visiting has become more of a ritual, the tackle box appeared to me as something I was meant to find that day. I take the little yellow tackle box as a sign of life, use, and enjoyment. It holds divining glittering, wiggly, mysterious, and familiar objects. I wanted to make improvisational contact prints and scans, arranging and reproducing the tackle box treasures. Maybe I’m playing soothsayer with it’s contents, looking for something supernatural, or maybe I’m just curious about the life of these objects along the watershed just outside the frame. Grasses (2,025) $$550.00 Grasses is a drawing of streambank vegetation — the tall stands that grow where water meets land, hold the soil in place, and filter what comes off the ground before it reaches the creek. It is a vital part of a watershed and does much of the work for its preservation. I drew it in pen and ink, in motion, the whole stand laid over by wind. Grass on a bank is never still; it registers every movement of air the way the creek registers every rain. My own relationship to Spring Creek is mostly this — walking the edges and looking at what grows there. Spend a week drawing a stand of creek grass and it stops being a plant and becomes a record. Every stalk is bent in the direction of weather that has already passed. Nothing on a bank stands upright for long — what lives there lives by giving way and coming back. The creek rises and falls on a schedule none of the plants agreed to, and they adapted by refusing to be rigid.
