I’ve spent a lot of time sitting along its banks, wandering through the creek bed, and collecting stones and bits of creek glass. There’s something about slowing down enough to look closely at what the water has carried to you. I think the creek has taught me to pay attention. Movement and Reflections (2026) $145.00 What we think of as the color of water is all just a reflection of light. The blue of the sky the gold of the sun in ripples light and movement and the trees above, all changed by drop or leaf falling or a rock just out of sight shifting the current. Water helps keep a calm flow through our lives. My daughter went to a school that was right on Spring creek when she was young. We saw it rise and fall with the rain, sometimes rushing and sometimes just a trickle. We spent so many hours by that creek after school to calm and just be. I worked at a school where we took children across Spring creek and in Spring Creek for their recess. It was an incredible thing really. The kids played in the creek and made forts and fairy houses in the woods. They loved it. At first some didn’t quite know what to do but they figured it out. It was a wonderful thing to see them connect with and find such joy in. Once we even saw an albino robin, all white within a flock of brown.

Open Trench (wall piece) the hagstone rocks are really just extra! 😅 (2026) $200.00 When Spring Creek was a wide open waterway she meandered as she pleased, providing sustenance and habitat for native flora and fauna, powering mills and irrigating local crops and orchards. Eventually, she became a threat, causing enough destruction that it was decided she had to be contained. A trench was cut, cement and rebar were placed, and Spring Creek was covered. I am struck by how similar this story is to the treatment of women throughout time. When they have behaved most like themselves and taken up “too much” space, they have been censored, silenced, and hidden away. What a joy it is to see Spring Creek open and visible again, appreciated as the wild woman she has always been. Having resettled in Northwest Arkansas at a young age, I have often questioned what it means to belong to a place, to a community, and as someone who once arrived as an outsider. I find myself asking what belonging looks like and what it means for a community to cultivate a sense of belonging for others.When I encountered the prompt centered around Spring Creek, I was drawn to the creek as more than a natural resource. It is a source so integral to this place that a town was shaped and named around it. Spring Creek has helped shape the landscape and the community around it, and I believe the ways we honor, respect, and care for the natural world reveal something about how we care for one another.This piece is a collaboration between myself and the natural resources Using locally grown flowers, plants, weed—gathered and pressed by me alongside sourced imagery— I created cyanotypes through exposure to the sun’s UV light. The resulting forms become a visual meditation on cultivation, the act of tending, nurturing, and creating the conditions for something to grow.Through this process, I think about belonging not as something we simply find, but something we cultivate within ourselves, within our communities, and within the places we call home. Gathering Creek (2026) $300.00 Spring Creek is a third space: neither home nor work, neither privately owned nor organized around consumption. It is a place where people gather without necessarily needing a reason to be there. We swim, sit, talk, wander, cool off, bring friends, meet strangers, and return again and again. I think of the creek as a kind of watering hole—not only in the ecological sense, but as a gathering place for people drawn toward similar ways of living. Its banks become temporary social spaces shaped by whoever arrives, where community can form through proximity, repetition, and shared use rather than through transaction. This work considers the creek as a form of social infrastructure: a place that makes certain kinds of relationships possible. In a culture where so much public life has been absorbed into spaces organized around buying something, Spring Creek offers another proposition. The water asks nothing of us in exchange for being there. The work comes from my interest in what becomes possible when people have access to places where they can simply gather, linger, and belong. Creek Wrinkles (2026) $100.00 This collage is inspired by a recent experience I had sitting on a rock at Spring Creek. I saw how the rain that starts at the top of the bank runs down in rivulets, forming new trenches through the hard pan, each drop joining one another winding their way to the creek, but that day every crevasse laid dry until our next rain. I was filled with grief, remembering my nephew. I wondered if perhaps I am not carrying those that I’ve lost like little drops waiting to fall, but perhaps they are all carrying me gently like the wrinkles of color on the surface of the creek.
