Spring Creek is a third space: neither home nor work, neither privately owned nor organized around consumption. It is a place where people gather without necessarily needing a reason to be there. We swim, sit, talk, wander, cool off, bring friends, meet strangers, and return again and again.
I think of the creek as a kind of watering hole—not only in the ecological sense, but as a gathering place for people drawn toward similar ways of living. Its banks become temporary social spaces shaped by whoever arrives, where community can form through proximity, repetition, and shared use rather than through transaction.
This work considers the creek as a form of social infrastructure: a place that makes certain kinds of relationships possible. In a culture where so much public life has been absorbed into spaces organized around buying something, Spring Creek offers another proposition. The water asks nothing of us in exchange for being there. The work comes from my interest in what becomes possible when people have access to places where they can simply gather, linger, and belong.

What is Spring Creek to you?
This work began with an on-site gathering at Spring Creek. I spent time moving through the landscape, paying attention to the individual elements that collectively make the creek what it is: its water, rocks, trees, understory, and other plant life. The images selected for the piece come from that process of looking closely and gathering visually from the site.
