This work is in response to a recent trip to Spring Creek with Amber and friends. I had not been before, but found it so calm and inviting. I had etched a plate at an artist residency program in Silicy three years ago, but did not have the opportunity to move forward with that suite of prints. It was a simple undulating line, and I intended to make chine-colle prints, backing handpainted rice papers with a rice adhesive and using the pressure of the press to make the print and collage the papers together simultaneously. I came across a large stone on the dry creek bed that had developed patterns from the flow of water and debris being pushed agaist and around it over time. I lugged this stone to my car and meditated on it, while painting my rice papers in the palette matching a small plein-air painting I had made in the water.
I hope the print gives the impression I felt of water moving over stones.

What is Spring Creek to you?
I found Spring Creek to be much like my experiences at other creeks in the area. I like to run with my dog through town, and whenever I can we pull off to swim and cool down in a creek. Maple was with me this trip, and she loved splashing in the water while playing fetch. I love having access to spaces like this, where we can just pull over and be immersed in nature.
