I grew up in southwest Missouri at the confluence of the James and Finley rivers. Much of my childhood was spent swimming in the river, fishing , and canoeing. While I love to think that it is pure instinct or my love for the small waterways of the Ozark’s is innate, I think much of my love comes from watching and having so many memories of my friends and family by the water. This is what this piece is about for me. Much like the heron I have so many memories of wading in the water and experiencing the world through a lens of wonder. Who knows how many rocks I’ve flipped looking for crawdads or how many fish I have caught from the rivers? While I do not live in the water, I cannot imagine what my life would be like without the rivers and creeks that have wound their way through my memories.

What is Spring Creek to you?
Spring Creek, is a summation of my love for the Ozark’s creeks and rivers. While it still retains its more rural areas, it is a creek that a suburban area can access and enjoy freely. In an area and time where many of life’s pleasures are locked behind paywalls, Spring Creek is something that everyone can love. To me Spring Creek is a thread that equalizes and connects so much of NWA. When I see people enjoying the creek I am reminded of how simple life can be and our connection to nature.
